Freund's Complete Adjuvant

Freund’s Complete Adjuvant is booster, which is mostly used to increase the immune response of a recipient. Freund’s adjuvant, an emulsion of mineral oil containing antigen used as an immunostimulant, is an adjuvant used in animal experiments. There are two kinds of adjuvant, complete and incomplete Freund’s adjuvant.  Freund’s Complete Adjuvant contains heat-murdered Mycobacterium cell wall components. Whereas incomplete Freund’s Adjuvant do not hold the mycobacterial component.

Several studies are being carried on with different types of adjuvants with the intention of evaluating the immune response. Here are some of the major features of Freund’s Complete Adjuvant.

Freund's Incomplete Adjuvant: An In-Depth Guide

Freund’s Complete Adjuvant is an emulsion of mineral oil and aqueous solution containing antigens or immunogens, and plays an important role in increasing the immune response against antigens. Freund’s complete adjuvant is generally used for the first immunization of animals, and after the first immunization is successful, in order to enhance the immune effect, the second immunization will be performed with Freund’s incomplete adjuvant. Dissolved antigens or immunogens can be released slowly with adjuvant assistance, which effectively prolongates the immune time. At the same time, inactivated mycobacterium cell wall components in the Freund’s complete adjuvant can clearly enhance the immune effect, thus achieving complete immunity.
